  • Introducing Tremap's Tree Establishment Monitoring Platform

Making Tree Planting Count Join us for an online event April 18th, from 10:00 to 12:00, as we introduce Tremap's innovative Tree Establishment Monitoring platform. Supported by Innovate UK grant funding, Cornwall based Tremap and LEAP have set out to design a simple tool to change our approach to tree planting. Millions of pounds are spent annually on tree planting efforts, but many of those trees don’t make it past sapling-hood. At Tremap, we're taking the conversation beyond planting to ensuring successful establishment of healthy trees, and provide insight on just how many trees fail, where, when and the reasons why. Whether you're involved in tree planting initiatives, a professional in the field, or simply passionate about our natural world, this platform is for you. Join us for a prototype preview, where we'll delve into the tool's creation, functionality, and the impact it will have on how we approach tree planting. Your input is vital in shaping the future of our forests. If you've ever felt frustrated by the lack of transparency in tree planting programs, or wondered why we lack essential checks and balances, this event offers a chance to be part of the solution. • Tremap Enters The Spanish Market!

Tremap to present at International Sustainable Agriculture Day hosted by ConnectClean! Tremap's mapping and digital labelling platform provides a powerful, economical and super simple toolkit for managing comercial tree based crops. Initially, Tremap has begun providing commercial growers in the olive industry with traceability-to-source and olive variety mapping solutions. This same technology is readily applicable to any other tree-based crop. Earlier in the month Tremap attended the World Olive Oil Exhibition in Madrid where there was clear focus on the need for traceability. By scanning a QR code on a bottle of olive oil, the Tremap platform lets the consumer see exactly where their oil comes from, the ecological setting of the farm, what grows nearby etc. Tremap adds value to Spanish brands by engaging the consumer and telling the story behind the olive oil. Tremap will continue to work in Spain and are quickly expanding to other countries and other commercial products. Tremap will be at the International Sustainable Agriculture Day in Valencia, Spain hosted by ConnectClean on the 21st of March 2023.

  • Feb 3rd Roundtable - Save the date!

Tremap is delighted to introduce the Tremap Roundtable - a forum for understanding needs, sharing experience and ideas, and exploring solutions. The first in a series this year, the Tremap Roundtable on February 3rd 2023 will bring together representatives from local/regional authorities, citizen science, tree advocacy, space tech and voices from the corporate sector. At this first one, we'll be exploring: How could the Tremap app be used to engage citizen scientists in the community to work alongside regional/local authorities and help with some of the repetitive surveying/monitoring/tracking/mapping tasks involved in tree care? By "tree care" we mean not just managing Ash Dieback, but also things like: tracking tree planting projects and providing accountability / transparency / monitoring for those; bringing TPO systems up to date and making them actually reflect reality (big pain point in councils, we understand); providing transparency and accountability in carbon projects and net-zero targets/tree planting; raising public awareness of trees in the urban landscape etc. We want to bring these voices together, listen to what the pain points are, talk about how we could better work together to care for trees and explore some solutions. Agenda The first half of our day will go as follows: 10:00-10:15 Tremap welcome and Introduction 10:15-11:00 Roundtable 1 - Overview: the overall problem, the tech players' tools, the stakeholders 11:00-11:15 Comfort break and coffee/tea 11:15-12:00 Roundtable 2 - Pain Points in managing ADAPs and other urban tree care tasks: Identifying and Prioritizing the needs and difficulties faced by stakeholders 12:00-12:15 Comfort break and coffee/tea 12:15-13:00 Roundtable 3 - Roadmap: Initial exploration of potential solutions using Tremap, citizen science and corporate sponsorship 13:00-14:00 Lunch 14:00-15:00 "Perspectives on Citizen Science programmes in tree care" Addresses and Conclusion Then, to finish up the day, we plan a general Q&A session and summary of what's surfaced during the discussions. Speakers Dr. David Slawson (Imperial College London) is going to join us remotely from Ayrshire and present his experience and views. You might know him from his work as lead of OPAL. He now represents the UK Tree Health Citizen Science Network at Forest Research and has a tremendous depth of insight and experience in citizen science + trees. We also have Dr. John Kress (Smithsonian Institution) speaking remotely from NY, USA (he's sort of a "founding father" of citizen science + trees + apps in the USA). Sir Tim Smit and a group from Eden Project will also be with us in person and quite a few others from regional and local councils, tree advocacy groups, corporate sponsorship and space tech suppliers etc. It should be a very relevant and helpful mix of voices. How to Attend The event is hybrid - in person attendance at Tremap's facility in Nanpean, Cornwall or by remote access. If you'd like to attend in person, please contact richardmaxwell@tremap.com If you'd like to register for remote attendance, please register here.

  • Tremap wins UKRI InnovateUK grant funding for Design Study

Tremap is delighted to be the recipient of generous grant funding by UKRI (UK Research and Innovation) and Innovate UK. 2022 has been a fantastic year on the development front! Tremap's software development team is on track to release Version 2.0 of the Tremap web portal and app in January (2023) and with that, the world's first global database of trees and accompanying web portal and app will be available. The toolkit is built and ready for use! And that opens up a whole new landscape to explore for Tremap: just how can this powerful but super-simple tool best be used? In partnership with Cornwall based creative partner Evident Agency, Tremap will now conduct a 6 month in-depth study of how we might take the basic global tree database platform and software tools (Cloud based web portal and iOS/Android app) and develop those further to solve our planet's environmental problems. Specifically, Tremap sees a powerful role for itself in regional and local council tree-care tasks in: mitigating Ash Dieback (implementation of council ADAPs) alleviating bottlenecks in compliance issues and TPO (Tree Preservation Order) system management providing transparency and accountability/reporting for council carbon offset/net-zero tree programmes public/communities programmes to help citizens lift some of the burden (budgetary and staffing) of tree care from councils, engage in trees and become invested in them. The InnovateUK funded planet-centred Design Foundations project will examine those four areas and, in liaison with councils and communities alike, determine just how Tremap can be developed and used to care for trees. There are professional tree management software platforms. There are citizen science tree interest apps. Tremap is unique in bridging the gap between both of those. A platform for both the professional and the public, the academic and the amateur, Tremap is set to be the planet's most innovative tree care platform, quite simply because of how it's used and who uses it. Thanks to backing by InnovateUK, Tremap and Evident are setting out to fund out from councils and communities exactly how that should look.

  • Tremap presents at AgriTechE REAP 2022

Tremap gives citizen scientists access to first global platform for tree recording Earth observation and smartphones enable everyone to support environmental regeneration. As international governments propose ambitious tree planting programmes to reverse habitat degradation, one key challenge is being overlooked: “we don’t have a reliable way of knowing what trees we have,” said Jonathon Jones, Founder and CEO of Tremap, presenting at Agri-TechE’s REAP 2022 Start-Up Showcase. The Cornwall-based agri-tech start-up has created the world’s first global tree platform for recording and locating trees. The app is already in use by a number of botanic gardens to replace manual methods of tree surveying. Jonathon explains that the idea for Tremap was born in Cornwall to provide a cost-effective management tool for tree collections that would replace the need to physically label the trees. “Tree surveys are incredibly time consuming and only conducted across small areas,” said Jonathon. “The concept for Tremap worked so well that we have increased its scope. It now consists of an international database of trees with an easy-to-use app for recording and visualisation.” Tremap combines existing tree databases with satellite imagery from earth observation to create a global map, which is being ground-truthed with a smartphone app. Jonathon continues: “The Tremap platform makes contributing to and viewing the world's first global database of trees engaging and enjoyable. It puts tree mapping into the hands of everyone with a smartphone app.” Applications include collating collections in botanical gardens, arboretums and public green spaces, evaluation of tree planting programmes, measurement of tree loss, and identification of particular species for conservation programmes. Tremap is now open to private investment and has already been the recipient of generous funding by the ERDF, Agritech Cornwall, Tevi and AeroSpace Cornwall. The company is collaborating with the University of Exeter in the UK and the Smithsonian Institution in the USA to further develop the mapping, and has several early adopter development partners, including The Eden Project in Cornwall. Jonathon welcomed the opportunity to present Tremap in the REAP Start-Up Showcase: “REAP is a very good opportunity to present Tremap's latest development achievements to the media, and indirectly to our key markets. We are very open to discussion with potential investors and funding entities from the private and public sectors.” Dr Belinda Clarke, Director of Agri-TechE, comments: “Trees are of fundamental importance to our survival, and Tremap is offering an innovative way to record and manage stocks of forestry. I am sure that it will attract significant interest from the agri-tech innovation ecosystem. REAP has provided profile for many exciting early-stage businesses with collaborators, end users and investors. 14 of the companies previously featured have collectively raised over £92 Million in the last three years.”
